We all desire a smooth, silky skin, however, large pores, excess of oil and acne breakouts often stand in the way of healthy skin. Pores are hair follicle and sebaceous gland openings, serve as the gateway for sebum (skin’s natural oil) and perspiration. Large pores for many of us more than unsightly nuisance. They tend to be found more often in people with oily or aging and sun damage skin. Men are more likely to present with larger pores due to the size of hair follicle and oil glands.

Poor hygiene and the resulting dirt, oil and dead skin cells often settle around the pores making them appear larger as the skin around them thickens. Excessive clogging of pores can lead to formation of blackheads and whiteheads. While you can’t avoid genetics and actually change the size of large pores, you can minimize the appearance of enlarged pores.

There are a multitude of options to make your pores smaller. It is important to use oil-free products to ovoid clogging of the pores. Be sure to remove cosmetics thoroughly each night. Cleanse with appropriate for your skin type cleansers. Use topical tretinoin or retinol base products to facilitate skin remodeling and keep the pores unclogged. Retinoic base products have ability to shrink the size of the pores overtime.
