An estimated fifty percent of the adult female population and fifteen to twenty percent of men have spider veins. Red, blue or purple "starburst" clusters, or a web-like small, non-essential blood vessels that lie close to the surface of the skin. Spider veins are most common in the thighs, ankles, and feet. They may also appear on the face. Although no specific cause has been identified in the formation of spider veins, there are many factors that can contribute to the development of spider veins, including: pregnancy, obesity or weight gain, chronic sun exposure, activities that require prolonged standing, genetics and certain medications, such as birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy. This condition is associated with increased pressure to the veins by excess blood backs up in the blood stream. As a result new veins are formed on the surface of the skin.
Dr. Gabinskiy is pleased to offer the Sciton JOULE ClearScan™ 1064 Nd:Yag wavelength, FDA-approved laser therapy for the treatment of spider veins, telangiectasia, and rosacea. Using the most advanced technology we can safely and effectively treat both tiny superficial face veins and deeper blue leg veins on men and women of all skin tones.
Broken capillaries and other visible vascular problems are preferentially heated by the laser and gently eliminated from the visible skin surface. No anesthesia is needed and patients report little or no discomfort during treatment. The procedure takes fifteen minutes to half an hour or more, depending on the number and size of the veins being treated. During the procedure, patients wear protective safety glasses.
There is virtually no downtime and patients can resume moderate activity immediately. Redness and slight itching that may result can last several days and it resolves over time. Patients should avoid direct sun exposure and use a sunblock after treatment.
Following laser treatment, the treated area is wrapped in a compressed bandage or stocking, and the patient is sent home. There may be slight itching for a day or two after the treatment owing to a mild release of histamine from the treated blood vessels.
Treatment cost: 30 minutes $350.00
